We all have seen at one point or another one of these mouse hover link advertisements from a company called Vibrant Media. Basically puts the Bing search engine bar wherever Microsoft so chooses. Very innovative and a great idea on their part. Surprised Google didn’t think of this.

If you’re a novice in the search engine optimization field, then you probably know about the Google Keyword tool. We always use the external one due to the fact of the changes it produces when logged in (especially on an Adwords account). With the newest competitor, Bing, Google had been losing market share slowly (6% loss in 1 month shown at this search engine watch post). That was back in the first week of June (it shows 72% share on June 5). Updated statcounter stats shows Bing and Yahoo almost dead even in market share. Here’s an updated July search engine market share report from StatCounter – fairly reliable:
It seems that Google has recovered most of it’s share lost. It shows it hovering about 75%-80%, thus we’ll use this as our base. If you look at the Google keyword tool, I’ll show you an example. On a search for ‘merchant service provider’ I make sure I uncheck use synonyms, then click the ‘get keyword ideas’ button. It shows for the month of May 8,100 local searches (use local – it means only in your own country, unless your client is global). Now at this point we know that 75% of searches for ‘merchant service provider’ equals 8,100. To get an approximate of all searches, 100% is 1/3rd higher than 75%, thus I will multiply 8,100 by 1.33 . I get 10,733, this is a pretty accurate estimate of the number of searches each month for all search engines for the keyword ‘merchant service provider‘. Now Bing and Yahoo, at 10% market share would both get about 1,073 searches each, per month, for this keyword. I would always leave room for a 5%-10% difference in the number for these two statistics, since we are using approximate data in the first place. After three weeks of careful planning and work – the new re-design for Seo Smooth Design is finished. Asside from a few small tweaks over time we plan on writing on this blog for design, development, search engine optimization and technology.
